…As president charges pharma industry to take advantage of Pharmaton for progress
The Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. Babayemi Oyekunle, has commended the leadership of Pharmaton 693 Cooperative Multipurpose Society for their ability to sustain the society for 30 years.
Oyekunle gave the commendation at the 30th anniversary of the society held at the weekend in Lagos.
Pharmaton 693, as the society is fondly called was established in June 1993, by 12 pharmacists who were foundation members with a clear vision of becoming the best managed and biggest community based cooperative society in Nigeria.
Oyekunle in his remarks at the event noted that PSN was happy with the birth of Pharmaton 693 30 years ago, saying it takes foresight and dexterity of the leadership to have consistently managed the society for 30 years.
He attributed the success and constituency of the society to the unity of purpose among members, saying there is strength in unity. He urged the leadership of the society to expand the scope of the society to ensure that as many pharmacists benefit from it.
Also speaking at the society’s 30th anniversary, the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Pharm. Lawrence Ekhator commended Pharmaton 693 leadership for managing the society and able to maintain unwavering cooperation of members for 30 years.
Pharm. Ekhator described the society as a beacon of hope to others.
Meanwhile, the President of the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Mr Oriyomi Ayeola has called on the leadership of Pharmaton 693 to bring in as many young pharmacists as possible to the society, to solidly secure its future.
He was ably represented at the event by the executive secretary of the Lagos State Cooperative Federation (LASCOFED), Mrs Ebun Akin Falaye.
Ayeola, who also doubles as the president of the International Cooperative Alliance Africa (ICA) praised the leadership of the Pharmaton for their relentless effort to bring the society to the level it is since its establishment 30 years ago. He charged them to do more so that the society will keep expanding.
Also speakingat the programme, Pharmaton 693 President, Femi Kehinde-David, pointed out that the society wholesale business, known as Pharmaton Wholesale was established about seven years ago, noting that the business is being repositioned to develop into a full–fledged distribution company that will cover Lagos State in the next seven years and entire Nigeria in the nearest future.
He called on stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry to take advantage and do business with Pharmaton 693 Cooperative and Multipurpose Society. He said “Pharmaton is prepared to partner with other cooperative groups to achieve our goals.
“Our partners in the pharmaceutical industries should also take good advantage of the unique nature of Pharmaton 693 CMSL; that is 24- vibrant male pharmacists that I describe as eagles. You should no longer be hesitant to do business with us. By the grace of God, you are secured with us. You can break protocol for us and you will not regret it”.
Earlier in his remarks, a former President of the society, who is also the chairman of the 30th anniversary planning committee, Pharm. Olusola Moses Jayeoba, noted that the society has survived all odds due to founding members’ foresight, tenacity of purpose, endurance, and unalloyed commitment to the rules and regulations of the cooperative.
Those qualities, according to Pharm. Jayeoba has enabled the leader to run Pharmaton efficiently such that it won an award for the best community-based cooperative in Lagos State.
He called on as many pharmacists who are willing to obey rules and regulations to join the society, stressing that there are a lot of benefits to gain from Pharmaton 693 Cooperative and Multipurpose Society.
The high point of the event was the presentation of the keynote address by Prince Adebori Omowa, who took his time to tutor members of the society on “Stakeholders’ role in the management of cooperative society in the 21st century: a practical approach”.
Pharmaton also used the occasion to splash awards on the past presidents of the society namely Dr Timothy Olusola Kumapayi; Pharm. Muyiwa Victor Akeju; Pharm. Olusola Moses Jayeoba; Pharm. Gafar Madehin; Pharm Afolabi Adeyemo; and Pharm Aderemi Samuel Fatoke.
A special award of Most Selfless Service to Pharmaton Operation was specifically bestowed on Pharm. Jayeoba, who promised to do more for the advancement of the society.
