Pharm. (Mrs) Edith Uchenna Nwachukwu is the managing director of Audion Nigeria Limited, a retail and distribution pharmacy in Nigeria. She is a native of Akokwa in Ideato-North, Imo State.
Born in 1962 into a family of 11, she had her elementary education at St. Peter’s Primary School, Irete, Imo State, after which she proceeded to Owerri Girls Secondary School, for her secondary education.
She bagged her B.Pharm from the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka in the year 1984 and also obtained a master’s degree in Public Health from University of Lagos in 1988.
Nwachukwu began her career as a superintendent pharmacist, with Galaxy Pharmaceuticals Limited, Gbagada, a wholesale/distribution company. It was from there she gained exposure and experience, which gave her insights to establish her own company, Audion Nigeria Limited, in 1989.
She prudently acquired a shop in Mende, Maryland Lagos, and started her retail pharmacy with just ₦600. Over the years however, the business has grown into a big pharmaceutical retail and distribution enterprise, and currently boasts of three branches.
Nwachukwu has been in a long-term distribution partnership with leading pharmaceutical companies, such as May & Baker Nigeria Plc; Swiss Pharma Nigeria Ltd; SKG Pharma Ltd; Nigeria German Chemical Company (now SYGEN Ltd); AVRO Pharma Ltd; and Teta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Based on her entrepreneurial acumen, as well as meritorious relationship with the aforementioned companies, she has earned several recognitions and awards to her credit. These include: Best Customer Award, May &Baker Nigeria Plc, 2015; Best Regional Distributor (Lagos), May & Baker Nigeria Plc, 2014; Overall Best Distributor, May & Baker Nigeria Plc, 2005; Trade Partners Bronze Award, SKG Pharma Limited, 2011; Outstanding Distributors Award, SKG Pharma Limited, 2010; Best Technical Product Distributor, SKG Pharma Limited, 2009; Best Overall Distributor, SWISS Pharma Nigeria Ltd, 2011; Best National Customer (Healthcare Business), May & Baker Nigeria Plc, 2015; 2nd Best National Customer (Pharma Business), May & Baker Nigeria Plc, 2015; Best National Customer (Healthcare), May & Baker Nigeria Plc, 2016; and Best Trade Partner Lagos Island District, 2018,.
Nwanchukwu has also been a very active member of several professional bodies within the pharmaceutical industry. She is a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN); member, Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN); member, International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP); and member, Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA).
She has also held various positions for the various groups, at different times, including: Chairman, Annual Luncheon Planning Committee, PSN Lagos, 2011- 2012; Chairman, World Pharmacist’s Day, ACPN Lagos, 2012; Vice-Chairman, Conference Planning Committee, ACPN National Conference, 2013; Chairman, Conference Planning Committee, ACPN National Conference, 2014; and Member, Electoral Committee, National ACPN Conference, 2015.
Pharm. Nwanchukwu is happily married, with four children and five grandchildren.
