Prof. Femi-Oyewo Hands Over to Adagadzu, Lists BOF’s Achievement

The Immediate Past Chairman (IPC), Board of Fellows (BOF) of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Prof. (Mrs) Mbang N. Femi-Oyewo, has officially handed over insignia of office to the newly elected BOF Chairman, Pharm. (Dr) Joel Adagadzu, on Monday at the BOF Secretariat, Anthony, Lagos, as she highlighted the achievements of the Board under her watch.

The handover ceremony, which was graced by other executives of the Board, also witnessed the handing over of the Immediate Past Treasurer, Pharm. (Chief) Chris Ibeto, to the new treasurer, Pharm. (Mrs) Ngozi Obikili.

Reminiscing on the events of the past three years, when she and her executives took over the leadership mantle of the Board, an elated Femi-Oyewo, expressed her profound gratitude to the Almighty God for His guidance and to all Fellows for the opportunity to serve in such capacity. She recalled how she promised through her manifesto to project the Board for PEARLS- an acronym which stands for P- Prestige, E-Excellence, A-Activities/Achievements, R-Relevance/Respect, L-Leadership and S-Services; which they achieved to the glory of God.

“Three years ago, I and my outgoing executives were elected to serve and also manage the affairs of the Board of Fellows. Once again, we thank the Fellows for the opportunity. The experience gained during our tenure is quite rewarding and amazing. We want to thank Almighty God for guiding us through these three years and we sincerely hope that we have put in our best and have not disappointed you”, she recounted.

Some of the milestones of the BOF during her leadership were listed as follows: Investment in form of N10M debenture in PSN – Pharmacy Tower project; procurement of Innoson- 15-seater bus for the BOF Campaign against Drug Abuse at N19, 188,750; Fellows Insurance Scheme; Acquisition of a property – apartment in Queens Court, Yaba, Lagos, to generate fund for the Board; Construction of a functional website for the Board; Creation of mentorship platform;  Introduction of public lectures 2019 -2021; Awarded N1m BOF 2021 Research Grant  to Pharm. (Mrs.) U. I. Olayemi and donation of drugs, consumables and food items worth N1M to Rehabilitation Centre in Lagos State.

The IPC, BOF, also mentioned some of the publications made during her tenure including BOF Directory, 2019; BOF Lecture Series Volume 2 and 3 with communiques. “During my tenure the dinner lectures were replaced by BOF Public Lectures- a great innovation that showcased BOF in the limelight. The website is fully uploaded and we are very visible on the net – www.bofpsn.com” she stated.

Prof. Femi-Oyewo, particularly emphasised payment of two annual dues for new Fellows of 2021 and endowment fee of N25,000, while urging all indebted Fellows to pay up their accumulated dues, as the Board has huge amount of money hanging outside.

According to her “The Board has requested that new Fellows should be asked to pay two years annual dues (N60,000) and endowment fee (N25,000), resulting in N85,000 each. Thus expected income from new Fellows (112) is N9,520,000. Please ensure this is done.

“I am grateful to our State/ Zonal Coordinators for their commitment and finally, I want to thank the members of my former and current (outgoing) executives for the wonderful cooperation they have given me, the dedication and loyalty with which they pursued their assignments. Thank you my IPC Pharm (Barr) Chiedu Mordi, FPSN, and President PSN, Pharm (Mazi) Sam Ohuabunwa, FPSN and Past BOF Chairmen.  To our Admin Officer Mrs Vivian Iwuamadi- l thank you on behalf of past chairmen and BOF.

The new BOF Chairman, Adagadzu, assured all Fellows of the readiness of his executives to hit the ground running,  notwithstanding the enormity of the workload, said with experienced team members and support of all past chairmen, they are sure of a successful tenure.

He appreciated the IPC for achieving so much in a very difficult period, as he requested for her wise counsel to the new executives.

Adagadzu, a former senatorial aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) expressed his delight in being surrounded by colleagues he had worked with for many years, especially the Vice-Chairman, Pharm.(Chief) Yetunde Morohundiya, who was his classmate.

“We may not change for the sake of changing, but for the benefit of BOF”, he stated.
