As the world commemorates World Malaria Day 2024, with the theme, “Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world”, a leading pharmaceutical company in Nigeria, Bond Chemical Industries Limited, has called for accelerated efforts to eradicate the scourge.

The pharmaceutical giant made the call on Thursday, 25 April, a day recognised by the United Nations (UN), to raise awareness about malaria at the national and international levels, through a press statement made available to journalists and signed by its Managing Director, Pharm. Remi Omotosho.

Omotosho, speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration, stressed the commitment of the firm to eradicate malaria by providing accessible and effective solutions to communities worldwide, particularly in Nigeria by standing at the forefront of the battle against the deadly disease.

He further noted that infants and young children continue to suffer the greatest mortality; with an estimated 4 out of 5 malaria-related deaths in the African Region in 2022, among under 5 children.

Omotosho further noted that malaria has continued to be a significant global health challenge, affecting millions of lives each year in Nigeria and across African regions, as well as other regions where access to effective prevention and treatment is limited, adding that the company’s quest to eradicate malaria in Nigeria has engendered the manufacturing of Temexcin Plus, a brand of dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine phosphate, an innovative antimalarial product.
