-Elects new executives

In recognition of their outstanding contributions toward the advancement of Clinical Pharmacists Association of Nigeria (CPAN), Dr Obaloluwa Ojo, managing director/CEO of Merit Healthcare Ltd, Lagos and Dr Otakho Daniel Orumwense, president of University of Benin Pharmacy Alumni Association, and ten others have been conferred with the prestigious Special Ambassador of CPAN Award.
The award presentation held recently during the association’s Annual General Meeting in Owerri, also witnessed the election of new CPAN national executives, with Pharm. (Dr) Maureen Nwafor emerging as the national chairman and (Pharm.) Dr Solomon K Nwafuru, as the vice-chairman.
Other members of the newly elected national executives of CPAN are, Pharm (Dr) AbdulMuminu Isah, secretary; Pharm. Motayo Oluwatoyin, assistant secretary; Pharm. (Dr) Obiajuru Wayemeru, finance officer 1; Pharm. (Dr) Rita Ukeredi; finance officer Ii; Pharm. Quanta Roland, internal auditor; Pharm (Dr) Timipre Okeroghene Aghogho, public relations officer; Pharm. (Dr) Chinelo Ijeoma Chukwu, national editor-in-chief; Nuruddeen Usman, PhD, project manager; Pharm (Dr) Moteehat Olu-Lawal, unofficial member i ; Pharm (Dr) Andrew Momo, unofficial member Ii; Pharm. (Dr) Ibrahim K. Bello, unofficial member iii; Pharm. (Dr) Joseph Madu, immediate past chairman.

The outgoing CPAN National Chairman, Dr Joseph Madu, in his address appreciated members of the association and the special ambassadors of CPAN, for their immeasurable support during his tenure as the first national chairman of the association. He enumerated the various achievements of the association under his leadership in the area of advancing direct patient centred care through clinical pharmacy practice research and education, since its establishment in 2019, and how it has also become the leading clinical Pharmacy Association in Africa. He highlighted the two international conferences that have been held since then to include the Uyo conference in 2023 and another one in Lagos in 2024, which were well attended.
Dr Madu, mentioned other recipients of the Special Ambassador Award to include Prof Arinola Joda of Lagos State CPAN, Dr Solomon Nwafuru of Imo State CPAN and Dr Regina James of Akwa Ibom state CPAN.
The newly elected chairman, expressed the heartfelt appreciation of the team to the association, pledging that they will not betray the trust that have been imposed on them. “We stand before you today with a profound sense of gratitude and humility as we accept the responsibility of this leadership position. We are deeply honored by the trust you have placed in us, and we are excited about the journey that lies ahead”
She further revealed their commitment to uphold the aims and objectives the association, which is to advance direct patient care through clinical pharmacy practice research and education, while soliciting the support, advice and prayers of all members. “We promise to move CPAN to a more enviable height within the next three years of our tenure.”
On their vision for the association, Dr Nwafor said, “Our areas of concentration shall include encouraging specialisation in the various specialty areas of clinical Pharmacy, strengthening our various state arms, engaging members in more trainings in relevant practice within and outside Nigeria .
Top among the dignitaries that graced the event were the first Professor of clinical pharmacy in Africa, C. N . Aguwa; the first PhD holder in clinical pharmacy from a Nigerian University, Prof Chinwe Victoria Ukwe; Dr Ezeudo Nwozuzu of Imo State University Teaching Hospital; Dr Dauda Audi Dangiwa of University of Jos; and Dr Norbert Ajiero, the Imo State PSN chairman and a special adviser on health to the Imo State Governor.
