There seems to be no end in sight to the outpouring of tributes for the late icon of Pharmacy and Publisher of Pharmanews, who joined the saints triumphant in the celestial realm on 15 July 2025, after a brief illness.

Widely respected for his editorial leadership, industry advocacy, and deep Christian convictions, Sir Atueyi was a mentor to generations of young and senior pharmacists, entrepreneurs, and communicators.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Lagos Chapter, described him as a true icon, a titan of the profession, and a beloved father figure, who left behind an indelible legacy that will forever shape the landscape of pharmacy in Nigeria.

In a condolence visit to the Atueyi family and the Pharmanews team, the Chairman of Lagos State PSN, Pharm. Babayemi Oyekunle, who led a delegation for the visit, commiserated with them while celebrating the remarkable impact of Sir Atueyi on the profession.

“While we grieve with you, we also celebrate a life exceptionally well-lived, a life dedicated to service, excellence, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge,” he remarked.

“Sir Atueyi was not just a pharmacist; he was a visionary,” Oyekunle added. “As the Publisher of Pharmanews, he created a platform that became an important voice for our profession. For decades, Pharmanews has served as an indispensable source of information, advocacy, and connection for pharmacists across the nation.”

Oyekunle recalled how, through his unwavering commitment to the publication, Sir Atueyi fostered intellectual discourse, highlighted critical issues, and celebrated the achievements of countless individuals in the field. His foresight in establishing and nurturing such a vital medium transformed how pharmacists communicated, learned, and grew.

Beyond his groundbreaking work with Pharmanews, the Lagos PSN leadership also celebrated the impact of Sir Atueyi’s mentorship. “A beacon of integrity and a tireless advocate for the advancement of pharmacy practice, his wisdom, humility, and unwavering dedication to professional ethics were hallmarks of his distinguished career.”

“The PSN Lagos State Branch remembers him not only for his towering achievements but also for his warm personality, his approachable demeanor, and his genuine care for every member of our community. He was a true gentleman, a respected elder statesman, and a constant source of encouragement,” Oyekunle stated.

Similarly, the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN) National described him as a pharmacist of a truly classic difference, an enigmatic figure whose life was a rare blend of purpose, grace, and unparalleled professionalism.

In a statement signed by the National Chairman of AHAPN, Pharm. Elechi Oyim, the association noted that Sir Atueyi did not merely practice pharmacy; he embodied it, elevating the profession through his visionary contributions and a life wholly devoted to excellence. “He was not just a man of medicine but a man on a mission, sent to illuminate his generation with wisdom, knowledge, and an unwavering faith in God. He recognised his divine calling and responded with all he had — his intellect, his pen, his voice, and most importantly, his heart.”

He continued, “Sir Atueyi, your life taught us integrity, humility, and purpose. As you glide toward the great beyond, we are comforted by the certainty that heaven has received a soul refined by service and devotion. You lived your faith, walked in your calling, and touched humanity in a way that only few ever could.”

Pharm. Oyim reflected on the vacuum his demise has created but expressed optimism in the sustenance of his legacy. “His departure leaves a void that time may struggle to fill. Yet, his legacy, etched deeply in the hearts of all who encountered him, will forever remain.”

Pharm. (Dr) Kingsley Chiedu Amibor, a former National Chairman of AHAPN, in a special tribute, described Sir Atueyi as a once-in-a-lifetime personality, who came, saw, and conquered.

He recalled his first meeting with the legendary icon in 2006, when he got to know him in person. “You never failed to grant AHAPN and my humble self priority attention in your journal. You inspired my interest in pharma-journalism, leading me to become the pioneer Editor-in-Chief of my association’s journal.”

“You raised the bar for pharmacy,” Amibor added. “As an evangelist, you were not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. You preached Christ to all and sundry. You served in His vineyard with joy.”

The Consultant Clinical Pharmacist and Senior Lecturer at Novena University, Ogume, Delta State, expressed sorrow over how much he will be sorely missed but took solace in the enduring legacy he left behind.
