Superior Pharmaceuticals on Friday unveiled Panache, its new brand of ketorolac tromethamine injection, formulated for post-operative pain management, during the 30th Conference and Annual General Meeting of the National Association of Urological Surgeons, Nigeria (NAUS). The event, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos on 28 November, 2025, drew surgeons from across the country who shared testimonials on the drug’s effectiveness.

The launch formed one of the high points of the conference, which brought together leading experts in urological practice, pharmaceutical development, and surgical care. According to the organisers, the introduction of improved non-opioid pain-relief options has become an urgent priority in surgical medicine, particularly as Nigerian surgeons increasingly seek alternatives that deliver effective analgesia with fewer side effects.

Speaking during the unveiling, Pharm. Bamidele Alao, brand manager at Superior Pharmaceuticals, described Panache as a timely and necessary innovation in the management of post-operative pain.

He said. “Panache is a brand of ketorolac tromethamine. It is in the class of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. It is top of the class as far as the molecule is concerned. What we have done today is to put it in perspective with our surgeons. What does it offer? In surgery, there is always the problem of safety; there is a lot of side effects that are of many concern to the surgeons.”

He continued: “Panache offers not only a way out from those side effects. It also offers comparative effectiveness for the patient. When doctors, surgeons are using panache, they are not losing any form of efficacy. Issues like respiratory depression, post-operative nausea, vomiting and delayed wound healing are not associated with this product. This is a product that is very safe and efficacious.”

Alao added that the motivation behind the development of Panache aligns closely with surgeons’ increasing desire to reduce dependence on opioids. He said:

“The major aim of surgeons is to stay away from opioids as much as possible. With Panache, they have that opportunity. We have pushed opioids to a very minimal level.”

Throughout the session, surgeons from various institutions recounted their clinical experiences using ketorolac  tromethamine and similar NSAIDs, highlighting improvements in patient comfort, mobility, and recovery outcomes. Some noted that the reduced incidence of respiratory depression and nausea made post-operative management easier, especially in high-risk patients.

Superior Pharmaceuticals said the introduction of Panache aligns with its broader mission in the Nigerian pharmaceutical landscape. Reinforcing this commitment, Mrs Ruth Shogbola-Harrison, assistant general manager at Superior Pharmaceuticals, said: “Basically, one of the reasons Superior Pharmaceutical established itself in the Nigerian market is to make affordable and quality medicines available to the Nigerian populace. We always ensure that Nigerian citizens afford our drugs.”

She added that the company remains focused on bridging gaps in local pharmaceutical access, particularly in areas where essential medications are either too expensive or inconsistently supplied.

Industry observers at the conference welcomed the product’s arrival, saying it could strengthen the range of non-opioid analgesics available to Nigerian surgeons. Health analysts also noted that increased accessibility to effective pain-management drugs could improve surgical outcomes nationwide and reduce reliance on opioid-based analgesics in both public and private hospitals.

The National Association of Urological Surgeons, Nigeria, praised stakeholders for continuing to introduce innovations that support surgical excellence. As the medical community explores better ways to enhance patient recovery, the unveiling of Panache is expected to stimulate further conversations about safe, effective, and affordable post-operative care solutions in the country.
